Learn more about Sandia at: http://www.sandia.gov*These benefits vary by job classification.What Your Job Will Be LikeThe Multiscale Fabrication Science & Technology Development Department, 5229, is seeking a passionate and motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to drive device measurements as part of an established and diverse team that includes physicists, engineers, and chemists. The candidate will work on a project exploring the materials origin of coherence-limiting charge noise in semiconductor quantum-dot-based qubits. To accomplish this, this project correlates electrical measurements of quantum dots with sophisticated material characterization.Candidates will be encouraged to contribute significantly at the forefront in the following areas:Development and execution of electrical measurements of gate-defined nanoscale devices in cryogenic environments and at high speed.Design of both quantum-dot devices and other structures which build a detailed picture of the dot environment.Development of materials improvements to suppress charge noise and extend coherence.On any given day, you may be called upon to:Assist in characterization of quantum dot-based semiconductor spin devices to support fundamental science projects investigating semiconductor-based quantum information devices and quantum materials.Meet and coordinate with the teams fabricating, characterizing, and measuring the devices, as well as the theorists who model the device behavior.Significantly coordinate with the expertise of the team to meet deliverables, which will supplement the candidates area of research to contribute to the team and their success.Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.Qualifications We RequirePhD in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or other relevant field conferred within five (5) years prior to employmentExperience performing original experimental research, as proven by a record of publications in peer-reviewed journalsAbility to acquire and maintain a DOE L security clearanceQualifications We DesireCryogenic electrical characterization of microelectronic devicesDesign and fabrication of microelectronic devicesExcellent teaming and communication skillsAbout Our TeamThe Multiscale Fabrication Science & Technology Development Department leverages a diverse capability set to provide science and technology products to enhance Sandia's national security missions. The department includes a broad set of expertise including atomic physics, quantum information S&T, micro-optics, and electrochemistry. We provide solutions including atomic physics based sensors; microfabrication at the atomic scale, atomic level experimental setups, atom and ion trapping microelectronic devices, and electrochemical materials expertise. In addition to work for internal Sandia organizations, we have an established record of successful engagement, collaboration, and delivery to both internal and external customers. The department leverages strong relationships with the Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) facility, the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), and other internal and external organizations to develop advanced solid-state electronic device technology.Posting DurationThis posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the posting date. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.by Jobble
