Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.Salary Range$99,700 - $196,100*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.What Your Job Will Be LikeAre you a sharp engineer who can handle a wide variety of roles and responsibilities in a collaborative work environment?We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Mechanical Engineer to join our product engineering team! The selected candidate will be supporting engineering efforts across all phases of projects spanning from conceptual-design studies to assembly, build, and test.On a given day, you may be called on to:Focus on mechanical design activities for space payloads and requires understanding of requirements and product realization processes for space-based hardware.Design, fabricate and assemble, interpret and translate mechanical/optical concepts into mechanical designs and fabricated hardware, and documentation.Manage the full range of remote sensing space system payloads and ground system software.Improve design, development, realization, and quality of all major thrusts programs.Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.Qualifications We RequireBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field plus seven (7) years' of related experience; OR Master's degree as stated above, plus three (3) years of experience.Experience in mechanical design drawing packages and tolerances.Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE Q-level security clearance.Qualifications We DesireExperience in the following:Creo or other mechanical engineering design toolsGeometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).Design for manufacturability.Material and process assessments for flight hardware in space environments.Product realization of mechanical components including procurements, inspections, nonconformance and corrective action management, supplier assessments and supplier development.Quality management or familiarity with AS9100 quality requirements.Measurement techniques.Ability to efficiently multi-task projects and roles within projects.Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with internal organizations and external production facilities and suppliers.Active DOE "Q" or "L" clearance with ability to obtain a "Q".About Our TeamThe Remote Sensing Systems Group (06780) provides the competencies necessary for harnessing and developing the world's best technologies, practices, and suppliers for realizing advanced remote sensing systems. The RSS Group leads and implements the design, fabrication, integration, testing, and delivery of the Global Burst Detection (GBD) Program Satellite Payloads. We provide a broad competency base of needed skill sets for the development of advanced satellite payloads, ND support needs, and other WFO programs. We can use our unique capabilities and team with others to provide end-to-end program needs.
