We are seeking a highly motivated R&D S&E, Systems Engineer to become part of the New Mexico Stockpile Engineering Team. We execute design, development and qualification activities associated with the US Nuclear Stockpile. You will have the opportunity to participate in a range of engineering projects including designing systems and components, designing test configurations, test planning and coordination, system integration, production planning and support, modeling and simulation, large-scale system tests, and annual assessment activities.New Mexico Stockpile Systems groups are the lead system integrator across Sandia and the complex for the B61, W88, W78 (including JTA6R development program), and W76 (including the JTA3, ALT939, and Mk4B development programs). New Mexico Stockpile Systems is also working towards the W88ALT370, W88ALT940, and B61-12 transition to stockpile which will include additional career opportunities in the near future.On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Lead the system integration for requirements through the entire system engineering process
• Work with other design and production agencies to establish interfaces, integration plans and to ensure designs are manufacturable
• Design, develop and contribute to the technical basis understanding programs
• Lead test planning activities, coordinate with test facilities, and execute large system level qualification tests.
• Lead projects impacting stockpile system sustainment activities
• Be an SME for scoping of modeling and simulation activities.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and domain specialists in the successful resolution of system related issues.
• Use engineering principles to conduct trade studies to identify system solutions.
• Be called upon to peer review other design efforts and concepts within the Labs.
• Brief SNL management and customers on the status of the qualification programs.
• Mentor early career staff and technologists
• This position may require you to travel occasionallyQualifications We Require
  • Bachelor's and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) plus 2 years relevant experience; or bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline plus 5 years relevant experience or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearanceQualifications We Desire
    • Knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Weapon Systems.
    • Self-motivated, positive individual comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work effectively with management.
    • Active DOE Q/L or DOD TS/S clearance
    • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams through complex technical challenges.
    • Experience working with National Nuclear Security Administration, DoD customers, Los Alamos National Laboratory, DoD contractors, as well as the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), and Pantex.
    • Familiarity with ND drawing and authorization system, product development and qualification, testing and evaluation, modeling and simulation.
    • Ability to integrate into and work effectively across multiple technical teams.
    • Experience using engineering principles to conduct trade studies to identify system solutions.
    • Experience with test instrumentation and methods.
    • Experience writing test plans and defining test objectives.
    • Familiarity with test facilities around SNL (i.e. Lightning facility, ACRR, Hermes, Shock/Vibe Lab, etc.) and experience coordinating with them.
    • Experience designing qualification plans.
    • Experience building test bodies and/or familiar with creating procedures for building test artifacts.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver briefings to customers and various levels of management.About Our Team
      Group 7220 is comprised of 7 departments entrusted with maintaining the integrity of the nation's nuclear stockpile. Each department is strongly integrated across the group and together are responsible for maintaining the technical basis for the W76-0/1/2, W78, W88, B61-3/4/7/11. In addition to established stockpile work there are a multitude of development and qualification projects including JTAs, Mk4B, and various ALTs. Production activities for the W76-1 and W76-2 AF&F continue at KCNSC and require frequent communication. Additionally, group 7220 leads the development of testers and operational activities for hardware management and engineering leadership for all test body assembly & disassembly activities.
