Summary:Provides primary support to the provider by preparing the patient for the visit. Maintains efficient patient flow and assists the provider with treatments and procedures.Provides support for clerical functions to include scheduling, referrals, and prior authorizations*Performs activities to maintain a clean, stocked, safe, and well-organized patient care environment


Teamwork: Participates on interdisciplinary team to meet patient care and clinic operation needs, working cooperatively with others to accomplish required work in a timely and efficient manner. Visit Navigation: Prepares patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines, collecting appropriate and accurate data, and providing all aspects of primary support to the provider.Equipment and Procedures: Uses patient care equipment and performs patient procedures in a safe, competent manner according to defined standards of practice.Message Management / Test Result Notification: Responsible for taking patient calls and initiating Telephone Encounter(s) for the providers and care team. Ensures accurate, timely response to and documentation of patient calls, message requests, and notification of test results. Trained in various programs to include but not limited to scheduling, prior authorizations, and referral management.Direct Care Activities: The MA is required to complete at least 6 of the following advanced skills based upon the individual clinic practice as identified by the clinic manager and lead provider. Competency Based Training (CBT), classroom based training, or Elsevier Competency will be used to certify competency with advanced skills.Responsible for performing advanced medical assistant procedures after completion of competency within scope of certification, under direct supervision of the provider and PHS policy such as:Suture/staple removalPhlebotomyFoley catheter removal and/or placementAce wrap/Splint applicationSet up aseptic/sterile proceduresRetinal ScreeningsBasic Foot Care:Screening and examination of the footCutting and filing of nailsMonofilament testingPatient education on foot care, signs & symptoms of feet that are at high risk, and what to do and where to go when foot problems developPreceptor for new hire MAsMedication administration (per approved list of medication/vaccines)Quality Improvement (QI) or Regulatory Readiness Audits: Quality Improvement:Data collection for QI projectPerform one or more of the following Regulatory Readiness Audits:AEDPOCT Quality ControlsExpired SuppliesMonthly environmental surveillance auditsIndirect Care Activities: Responsible for Kanban system for stocking exam rooms and procedure room. Maintains a clean, organized, safe, well-stocked environment, and follows infection control and regulatory standards.Provides support for clerical functions when needed to include scheduling, referral management, and prior authorizations: Manages patients calls Schedules patient appointments according to guidelines as defined by standard work Monitors providers schedule to identify no shows for rescheduling. Places reminder calls to patientsManages prior authorization for durable medical equipment, diagnostics, and specialties. Manages referrals for diagnostic testing or specialistManages and maintains tracking of Advanced Directives, FMLA, and other patient formsCustomer Service and Caring Practices: Applies AIDET principles as well as good listening, oral and interpersonal communication skills to create a supportive, therapeutic environment, and provides responsive, compassionate care in meeting patient, significant other, and family requests and needs.Communication: Communicates pertinent patient data to provider, keeping him/her informed of issues and concerns regarding patients or the environment. Quality Improvement: Works collaboratively with care team to meet process improvement goals and clinical quality metrics. Responsible for orientation and training of new medical assistants under the direction of the Clinic Manager. Required: *Specialized training in clinical medical skills from an accredited Medical Assistant program

Professional Requirements: Maintains current certifications in required emergency response trainings.Completes all Organizational, Department of Nursing and Department-Specific competency training/requirements within specified timeframe. Education:High School Diploma or GED
