Job Description Type of Opportunity: Part Time (.45 to .89) FTE: 0.600000 Exempt: No Work Schedule: 12 Hour Days

Summary:Performs advanced patient care procedures (such as, initiation of intravenous therapy, splinting / casting, suturing, and simple patient teaching) under the direction of a licensed Nurse or Physician and / or performs advanced support-procedures for the operation of a Nursing or Clinical unit. Coordinates equipment and / or supply systems. Performs sterile processing procedures.


Responsibilities:Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in the patient record. Stamps and assembles patient charts. Posts laboratory and other tests results. Transports patients and documents action on patient record. Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in patient record. Collects and records vital signs in patient record. Provides simple patient teaching and discharge instructionsInserts and removes non-medicated, peripheral intravenous therapy lines under the direction of a physician. Performs phlebotomy. Collects samples from central line catheters. Performs arterial puncture and blood collectionPerforms wound care and dressing changes. Prepares patients for surgery. Inserts and removes gastric and urethral tubes. Performs enemas and disimpactions. Applies plaster and fiberglass splints, casts and traction devices. Performs bedside testing such as oximetry, ECG, Glucometery, urinalysis and other tests. Anesthetizes, scrubs and sutures wounds under the direction of a physicianCoordinates and maintains specific equipment and / or supply systems. Coordinates and maintains specific sterile processing systemsOperates patient monitoring systems specific to unit needs ( such as, cardiac and fetal heart monitoring).Uses the computerized Patient Care Information System (PACIS) at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in this description, as well as that of a Unit Secretary (544), if requiredInsures cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit. Cleans and stores equipment. Empties trash, linen bags and sharps containersStocks medical supplies, linens and paper goods. Inventories equipment as required. Processes broken equipment as directed. Maintains equipment logs as requiredDelivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology. Transports x-rays, blood and equipment. Performs basic clerical duties such as answering phones, taking messages, filing and copyingParticipates in the nutritional well being of the patient through tray delivery, assistance with patient set-up, assists those patients that are dependent for their intake needs, and accurately records consumptionAdministers oxygen under the direction of a licensed Nurse. Assists nurses and physicians with sterile procedures. Assists with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing and walking patientsAssists or provides patient hygiene to include, shaving, mough care, foot care, pericare, and bathingAssists patients with portable or wall oxygen and assures proper storage of E cylindersOrganizes care in a manner that contributes to the overall quality of the team*Communicates information pertinent to the end of shift summation before leaving the unitPerforms other functions as required/requested.


Other information:High school or equivalent plus trade or vocational school in medical / surgical patient care. One to three years experience preferred. Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions. Licensed by the State of NM or National Registry as an EMT Intermediate. Education:Essential: High School Diploma or GED Credentials:Essential: Emerg Med Tech/Intermediate-NM

Competencies and skills:Nonessential: SKILL-Ability to effectively interact with customers to understand their needs and explain data SKILL-Microsoft Office SKILL-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone with members, employer groups, brokers, physicians, and physician office staff using strong dialogue and customer service competencies.
