Document Improvement Specialist, CDI, Full-Time, Days, Albuquerque, NM

We are looking for a Document Improvement Specialist to join our Clinical Documentation

Improvement team in Albuquerque, NM.

This full time job is located at Lovelace Shared Services: Organizational support departments for all Lovelace facilities including Coding, Finance, Health Information Management, Revenue Cycle, Marketing, and the Resource Team. We are dedicated to exceeding our customers' expectations in every way.

Document Improvement Specialist Job Duties:

  • Facilitates concurrent modifications to clinical documentation supporting specificity of services and care provided.
  • Educates all internal customers, including physicians, nurses and other ancillary personnel, on clinical documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, as well as performance improvement methodologies. Creates job aids and queries in support of training initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with medical staff, nursing staff, other allied healthcare professionals, and coding staff to ensure the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation in the medical record through chart review, physician querying, and provision of ongoing education.
  • Educates all internal customers, including physicians, nurses and other ancillary personnel, on clinical documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, as well as performance improvement methodologies. Creates job aids and queries in support of training initiatives.

Document Improvement Specialist Education and Experiennce Job Requirements:

  • Minimum: Associates
  • Desired: Associates or Bachelor's in Nursing or HIM

  • Required: BSN in Nursing and Nursing Background & Experience
  • Ability to apply principles of inpatient prospective pay system (MS-DRG) assignment, APR DRG assignment, present on admission (POA) status assignment, hospital acquired conditions (HOA) code assignment, and patient safety indicator (PSI) code assignment.

  • Prefered knowledge of EPIC, EXCEL, power point and publisher.

  • Proven organizational, critical thinking and time management skills required. Must have the ability to converse with physicians in sometimes difficult training scenarios.

  • Must be capable of conducting brief presentations to facility physicians and facility leadership.

  • Must be available to work when physicians are available.

  • Must be detail oriented and work both independently and collaboratively with various administrative, financial, and clinical areas.

  • Must have excellent written and oral communications skills. Must have the knowledge and ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.

  • Exhibits strong analytical/problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of disease state processes and associated treatment plans.

  • Minimum: 3 years of related experience

  • Desired: 3 years of acute care experience or 3 years recent inpatient coding experience.

  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification preferred.
