DESCRIPTION: The CNC Programmer/Operator Tech III is responsible for set-up, operation, and programming of CNC routing and milling machines with minimal supervision of tasks on a daily basis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Operates computing equipment to access job information (e.g., drawings, specifications and other online information systems) and perform job tasks (e.g., post/upload/download programs, create/edit CNC programs). Edits and performs programming of CNC machines. Performs typical machine shop operations with minimal supervision to support the trimming and routing of metal and composite Space Flight hardware. Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations. Performs but not limited to the following tasks: milling, drilling, taping, de-burring, and all bench operations. Receives minimal supervision and assistance with regard to machine set-up. Advise and assist the Composites Fabrication Supervisor in keeping a minimum acceptable inventory level of standard and common machine tools, cutters, and bits to eliminate down time related to procurement lead times. Contribute to meeting production rates by participating in schedule requirement reviews and brainstorming activities to reduce processing time and increase throughput while producing hardware at an acceptable level of quality and meeting Customer requirements. Carries out tasks using basic hand tools including calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, scales, height gauges. Support internal R&D efforts and may fabricate, assemble, disassemble, rework, modify and reassemble various piece-parts, tools, mechanisms and sub-assemblies in accordance with applicable instructions and/or specifications. Operate conventional/manual equipment including horizontal, chopsaws, pedestal grinders and vertical band saws. Will be cross-trained to perform Composites Fabrication functions including lamination, panel consolidation, assembly, mixing and bonding with 2-part adhesives. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, modified, or changed at any time at the Companys discretion. Changes may be made formally, informally either verbally or in writing. All other duties as requested. QUALIFICATIONS High-School diploma or GED. Entry level, 0-2 years experience in the aerospace composites industry. Machine shop (metal or composite) experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required. Set-up and operate 3-axis NC routing and milling machines. Ability to use various types of hand tools, measuring tools, and hand-held power tools. Ability to follow written Work instructions and use simple math. Ability to program and operate MasterCam, X Series. Ability to work with common drawing files including .stp, .dwg,. iges, and .dxf. Strong GD&T skills and knowledge of ANSI 1994. Knowledge of the coordinate system to identify multiple axes (e.g., X,Y,Z). Ability to sequence and layout own work and perform any bench work necessary to finish parts to quality specifications. Knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, and machinability of composites materials (e.g., cutting speed and feed rates for materials). Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of passing a respiratory training program that will allow you to use a half face respirator as necessary to perform daily operations. Ability to listen and take direction. Individual must be detail oriented, organized and capable of maintaining a clean clutter-free work area Possesses an interest and willingness to learn Ability to speak, read, and write English and comprehend written work instructions.
