What Your Job Will Be Like Sandia National Laboratories, the nation's premier science and engineering lab, is currently looking to hire an experienced Information Technology (IT) Director who is looking for challenging and impactful work that contributes to security, peace and freedom worldwide! The Director, Information Technology role oversees the use of Information Technology in our company. Reporting to the Information Engineering Executive Director, this position will be responsible for working with the business to develop technology initiatives and provide direction in all technology-related issues in support of Sandia National Laboratories. This role supports Sandia's efforts to optimize the efficiency of the National Security Enterprise (NSE) by consolidating IT infrastructure/services and eliminating redundant systems, to increase efficiency through mobility and cloud computing, and to improve business processes to better integrate across sites. The ideal candidate should have a solid IT background and consistently keep up to date with advancements in the field. Apart from their education and experience, this candidate will have strong leadership capabilities and a strong strategic business acumen, as well as experience in delivering mission work. This candidate will also be a transformational leader who can balance leading at a strategic level while delivering on tactical roadmaps with a record of producing and delivering world class IT solutions. In this role, you will have the ability to take appropriate and calculated risks to advance the enterprise's IT environment. You will also work to devise the company's IT strategy and ensure that all systems necessary to support its operations and objectives are in place. This vital role will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the following critical partners:

  • National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), on NSE leadership of Information Technology.
  • Sandia Leadership and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), to define and develop objectives for information security. On any given day, the IT Director may be called on to:
    • Set objectives and strategies for the IT environments at Sandia.
    • Select and implement technology to streamline all internal operations and help optimize their strategic benefits.
    • Design and customize technological systems and platforms to improve customer experience.
    • Engage in professional development continually to build the skills, abilities, and knowledge essential to this position.
    • Provide mentoring to the team and lead other managerial responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and correcting employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established ES&H requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment. Take actions necessary to "stop" work when an unsafe condition or action is identified. Ensure that every employee has the right and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified. Qualifications We Require
      • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security or relevant discipline, plus twelve (12) years of relevant experience.
      • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Information Technology or relevant STEM field.
      • Minimum of eight (8) years of demonstrated managerial experience.
      • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance. Qualifications We Desire
        • Master's degree or Ph.D in a Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security or relevant STEM field.
        • Validated success as a strategic partner with IT teams, cyber security, HPC, and/or software engineering.
        • Experience leading an organization through significant change.
        • Experience in implementing innovative technology and transformational strategies.
        • Ability to work within complex and sophisticated environments.
        • Ability to actively communicate, inspire, motivate, develop and hold all levels of staff to high standards.
        • Experience leading complex technical organizations engaging in the full spectrum of product delivery: Research and development, productization, delivery, and maintenance and operations.
        • Excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively lead numerous projects across varied and dynamic mission areas.
        • Broad technical skill with history of effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences (customers, suppliers, engineering, integrated supply chain and program management).
        • Integrative problem solver with proven ability to solve complex, multi-layered problems with due consideration for business and strategic consequences.
        • Ability to collect, synthesize, and interpret operating, technical and financial data and turn into compelling messages.
        • Experience influencing and presenting to senior leadership and business customers.
        • Experience within DOE/NNSA and with government programs.
