Must-Have: Graduate from an accredited college, university, or
nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing. Description: The
Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing
care. This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent
Providers, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting
in examinations and treatment of patients. Applies nursing and
supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment, and
referrals of inmates/residents. Performs all technical and clinical
procedures within the scope of education and licensure. Attends
sick call with the physician to evaluate inmates/residents.
Prepares a list of inmates/residents to be examined and prepares
the examining room and equipment. Operates pill call, dispenses
medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and
procedures. Calls Licensed Independent Providers for medication and
treatment orders or other emergencies. Examines and assesses new
inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries and refers them to
emergency care as needed. Performs emergency procedures and
notifies Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders.
Assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by
contract personnel. Job responsibilities include: Monitoring
inmate/resident hospitalizations for early releases when
appropriate. Providing guidance, supervision, and monitoring of
nursing care by licensed vocational and practical nursing staff.
Maintaining a good working relationship with facility staff,
nursing staff, and outside provider agencies. Utilizing established
corporate and facility policies in decision-making while applying
sound independent judgment. Evaluating the provision of medical
services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication. Maintaining
absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
Assisting with the review of medical files to ensure all provided
services are documented. Monitoring all potential catastrophic
illnesses. Auditing pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as
required. Complying with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially
those concerning controlled substances. Observing and recording
inmate/resident behavior. Inspecting the medical unit for items
that could be used as contraband. Providing health counseling and
health education on individual or group basis as required.
Assisting in preparing and maintaining a variety of standard
narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports,
and logs. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting
medical and technical procedures, regulations, and documents.
Reviewing, processing, and responding to lawsuits, and attending
court hearings when necessary. Facilitating accreditation of the
medical program by providing required medical services. Preparing
and disseminating safety and accident reports as required by
policies and procedures. Taking appropriate action in cases of
serious and unusual incidents and emergencies. Requirements
