Job Title: Surgical Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 4 Days Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Two (2) years current experience required in a large operating room. License: BLS certification required. Certifications: Certified Surgical Technicians (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery certification NCCT preferred. Must-Have: - Must be a team player, flexible, and accustomed to a fast-paced environment. - Short-term training in an operating room setting or graduation from a surgical technician certification program required. Description: Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures. Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety. Demonstrates problem-solving ability in relation to the procedures being performed. Maintains current knowledge of various equipment, procedures, and supplies. Adheres to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment. Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments during the procedure. Secures and prepares all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures. Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the operating room. Prepares patient skin for surgical treatment. Positions and re-positions patients during surgery. Monitors patients during surgery. Provides supportive care during the pre-operative phase. Performs scrub functions. Ensures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source. Maintains current knowledge of anatomy and physiology and medications used intraoperatively. Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops, and publications. Follows all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures. Ortho, ENT, and/or vascular experience is a plus. Epic experience preferred, but not required; training can be provided on-site.
