What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking a Manager, Industrial Hygiene. The successful candidate will oversee and manage members of the workforce within the department (industrial hygienists, occupational safety and health and support staff). On any given day, you may be called on to: * Guide the work of the department. * Direct the industrial hygiene worker safety and health program for the corporation involving complex and hazardous chemical, physical, and biological processes in research and development, production, test and evaluation, and operations. * Oversee industrial hygiene and safety policies as well as implementation of 10 CFR 851 and safety programs such as but not limited to exposure assessments, biosafety, pressure and laser safety. * Understand the work of the organization and connect the work and expertise of the organization with potential beneficiaries, collaborators, and customers. * Develop policy and objectives, evaluating programs, and providing advice on environmental and occupational health. * Direct occupational safety and health work that is rooted in the fundamentals of applied science and engineering and requires a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles. * Direct the anticipation, identification evaluation and control of chemical, physical, biological, and safety workplace hazards in compliance with applicable Government and local regulations and standards. * Analyze and interpret laboratory and field monitoring data from investigations relative to working conditions and potential health hazards. Direct the assessment of risk associated with workers injury and illness; hazard prevention; hazard abatement; and accident investigation and analysis. * Promote excellence by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements. * Oversee and manage members of the workforce, within the organization, including employee recruitment, selection, hiring, professional development, work assignments, salary,and assessment and performance management, consistent with the mission of the organization. * Apply organization knowledge and experience to independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations. * Ensure that customer needs are satisfied through the creation of trust-based relationships. * Balance the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects or programs. * Counsel and assist employees and management on government legislation, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) contract compliance, and Sandia National Laboratories' policies or procedures to ensure compliance. * Review reports covering findings, propose corrective measures, and compliance with occupational safety and health rules and standards. * Interpret occupational and environmental health rules and regulations. * Develop corporate requirements and procedures governing the use of hazardous agents and well-being of the users. * Direct the assessment and evaluation of work operations and engineering controls to determine potential related health hazards associated with work place conditions. * Direct special assignments concerned with occupational health and industrial health hazards, including health emergencies and special investigations. * Determine industrial hygiene program needs and opportunities and coordinate with other programs, divisions, etc. * Maintain liaison with DOE, the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Sandia Field Office, occupational safety or health organizations, management, employee representatives, and other organizations regarding industrial hygiene problems and solutions. Qualifications We Require * Master's degree in industrial hygiene. * Possess American Board of Industrial Hygiene Certification (i.e., Certified Industrial Hygienist). * Three or more years of leadership experience. * Eight years of professional-level experience in operational industrial hygiene. * Expertise and competencies obtained through education and experience in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene. * Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of industrial hygiene. * Thorough knowledge of the scientific principles relative to environmental control. * Thorough knowledge of the equipment, testing, and investigative methods and laboratory procedures related to the specific field of industrial health. * The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance. Qualifications We Desire * Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. * Demonstrated organizational, supervisory, and leadership capabilities to direct the work of health and safety personnel. * Demonstrated ability to direct and mentor professional staff and technologists. * Demonstrated ability to effectively respond to, and direct others in, emergency and abnormal situations. * Experience working in a DOE R&D environment. * Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to interact effectively with Line organization personnel, other Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) organizations, senior SNL management, external entities, and NNSA/DOE or other governmental agency officials.
