R&D Manager, Advanced Decision Analytics, (05493) The Next Generation Systems & Analysis Group (05490) is a multi-disciplinary organization who develops advanced concepts, designs and performs detailed analysis for advanced military weapon systems that provide the nation with a strategic advantage. The Group collaborates with many other national security partners to perform complex modeling and simulation to reduce risk throughout the prototype and product development processes and identifies risks and opportunities for different design options for military systems. 05490 consists of six departments and two program areas, the Military Systems Analytics (MSA) program area and the Directed Energy Enterprise (DEE). 05490 is actively seeking a highly qualified, enthusiastic, forward-looking manager to lead the Advanced Decision Analytics Department (05493)! This department designs, develops and applies simulation, optimization, and advanced decision analysis capabilities. These capabilities support the needs of a diverse set of customers with multi-level, objective analysis and insights to optimize strategic investments in critical weapon system technologies. Our scientists and engineers perform work for a variety of customers alongside other government labs and federal agencies. Our partnerships and collaborations enable us to meet the critical needs of the Departments of Defense and Energy as well as Other Governmental Agencies (OGA). This requires moderate travel for the manager to support customer engagement, business development, and continuous learning activities. The 05493 department manager has significant programmatic responsibilities which include regularly consulting with fellow managers across the lab and empowering a team of highly experienced Principal Investigators. This ensures that Sandia delivers on all programmatic goals and objectives within the scope of work and funding. The manager certifies that staff perform all work in accordance with applicable Corporate policies and ISO9000 standards to ensure high quality, safety, and security standards. The 05493 department manager directs the department's hiring, staffing, and development plans to ensure a vibrant and diverse workforce. As a part of this plan, the manager may be required to actively recruit and implement talent management initiatives including staff incentive programs to retain critical skills.   • Master's or higher level degree in a relevant STEM field plus eight years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new business opportunities
  • Ability to engage in moderate travel
  • Active TS or Q security clearance
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Special Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance, which typically requires a polygraph Qualifications We Desire Ideally, your background will also include some of the following:
    • Minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience
    • Outstanding written and verbal communications (e.g., technical presentations)
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills
    • Development, operational, or acquisition experience with hypersonics, missile, or other aerospace systems
    • Experience in modeling, simulation, optimization, machine learning, systems analysis, system of systems analysis, or decision analytics
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute an action plan given multiple, conflicting requirements and constraints
    • Experience with planning strategy, creating roadmaps, and developing partnerships
    • Experience recruiting staff, staff career development, cultivating teams, mentoring, and encouraging others to perform to excellence
    • Experience in successfully interacting with and influencing a variety of partners at all levels including customers, industry partners, management, and staff
    • Experience applying technology to solve hard problems and developing new technology to increase capabilities
    • Direct experience working with the DoD, DOE, NNSA, or other federal agencies
    • Demonstrated awareness of and ability to work across program and organizational structures
    • A history of establishing and maintaining trusted partnerships
    • Experience working in the naval security domain as a member of a Joint, Service, or COCOM Staff as a field-grade officer or civilian equivalent
    • Experience working with the DoD acquisition community across the lifecycle
