Job Description:
Must have an active DOE Q clearance. Active, meaning the
individual granted a clearance is briefed and currently occupies a
position for which the clearance is required. Leidos is seeking a
Senior Project Engineer to support the National Nuclear Security
Administration (NNSA), Office of Defense Programs. This position
supports the Federal Program Managers responsible for nuclear
weapons production integration, stockpile sustainment, and
modernization programs across the Nuclear Security Enterprise. The
selected candidate will apply advanced engineering and analytical
expertise to support one or more mission areas, including: NA-121 –
Stockpile Production Integration (production planning, capacity,
and execution) NA-122 – Stockpile Sustainment (lifecycle
management, reliability, and aging systems) NA-125 – Office of
Stockpile Modernization (development, integration, and transition
to production) This role operates with limited oversight and
requires the ability to evaluate program performance, identify
risks, and develop actionable recommendations across complex,
multi-organizational programs. The role requires the ability to
synthesize complex technical data across laboratories, production
agencies, and DoD stakeholders, translating execution status,
risks, and dependencies into decision-quality insights for Federal
leadership. You will engage regularly with NNSA headquarters staff,
site offices, national laboratories, production agencies, systems
engineering teams, and DoD stakeholders to support program
coordination, reporting, and execution alignment. This is a
full-time contractor-support position requiring on-site support at
NNSA offices in Albuquerque, NM, with periodic travel requirements.
Primary Responsibilities: Provide Federal Program Managers with
engineering analysis supporting program execution, integration, and
delivery across production, sustainment, and modernization
portfolios. Evaluate technical progress, production readiness,
lifecycle performance, and integration risks across programs.
Monitor and assess execution of program milestones, deliverables,
and schedules across laboratories and production agencies. Track
Defense Programs, DoD, and Congressional actions impacting program
priorities and execution. Lead responses to data calls, scenario
analyses, and leadership inquiries related to program status and
risks. Coordinate across NNSA headquarters, national laboratories,
production agencies, systems engineering teams, and DoD
stakeholders to resolve program challenges. Develop executive-level
briefings, reports, and issue papers outlining technical progress,
risks, and mission impact. Oversee tracking of action items and
deliverables to ensure alignment with program objectives and
schedules. Evaluate performance trends and recommend mitigation
strategies to address production, sustainment, and modernization
risks. Support DOE product realization processes, program reviews,
and interagency coordination activities across assigned mission
areas. Support recurring reporting requirements, including
portfolio assessments and senior-level program reviews.
Requirements: Active DOE Q clearance. Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering or related STEM field with 12 years of experience or
Master’s degree with 10 years of experience. Experience supporting
engineering, research, development, production, sustainment, or
modernization programs within DOE/NNSA, DoD, national laboratories,
or production agencies. Demonstrated ability to apply analytical
skills to inform technical or programmatic decisions. Understanding
of Nuclear Security Enterprise roles and responsibilities,
including design and production agency interfaces. Experience
working within federal, defense, national laboratory, or similarly
complex technical environments. Strong organizational skills with
high attention to accuracy and detail. Ability to operate
independently and manage competing priorities in a high-visibility
environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams. Strong written and verbal
communication skills, including experience preparing materials for
leadership review. If you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling.
