SDL is seeking a senior electrical engineer to join our team in Albuquerque. In this case, the team is a group of talented scientists and engineers prototyping state-of-the-art atomic clocks, optical communication, and atom-based navigation. We routinely work from DC to Terahertz using free space lasers and optics, fiber-based laser systems and components, discrete RF components, and a mix of COTS embedded development platforms.

This position works alongside team scientists and engineers to experiment, prototype, and design solutions. The scope of the effort can vary from small to large, requiring an individual with multidisciplinary leadership and system engineering skills. The position requires leading system level modelling efforts to demonstrate viability of proposed solutions.

The Ideal Candidate Will
Work with a scientific research team to develop instrument and control electronics, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal designs
Develop a working understanding of use cases and performance goals to develop engineering requirements and implementation specifications
Provide software content to common development platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Red Pitaya, Arduino, and BeagleBone to support experiments and prototyping activities
Work with embedded and desktop Linux, running applications in Matlab, Simulink, Python, ANSI C, C++
Be responsible for source archiving and revision control, like branching, merging, and release

Required Qualifications
BSEE in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
10 years of relevant industry experience or 8 years' experience with MS degree
Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work in a lab environment with test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers) and perform minor white-wire circuit modifications
Fluency in at least one: Matlab, Simulink, or Python
Fluency in at least one electronic design (EDA) package, including circuit simulation and basic layout/routing
Per federal mandate, must be willing to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19 or provide reasons for medical or religious accommodation upon date of hire
Must be a U.S. citizen and be able obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance

Let us know in your application materials if you possess the following qualifications:
MSEE in Electrical Engineering
Active U.S. Government security clearance
FPGA experience (VHDL, Verilog, HLS), particularly Xilinx devices using Vivado and/or Vitis flows
Experience with design and synthesis flows from system modelling tools into embedded software and FPGA
Experience in high reliability design for space-borne or other critical systems
Understanding of radiation considerations in electronic design
